What is the 11+?

The 11+ is taken by thousands of students every year at the end of primary school, commonly in the autumn term of year 6.

In the United Kingdom, these exams determine which students are eligible for admission to selective secondary schools, including grammar schools and some private schools. The main purpose of these exams is to identify students who excel academically and who would benefit from a more challenging educational environment.

At Modern Tuition, we have tutors who are experts at helping students pass popular types of entrance exams like the GL assessment and CEM. Some private schools choose to create their own 11+ exams but these tests still tend to cover similar topics and our tutors have had lots of success helping students prepare for school-specific exams too.

What do 11+ tests involve?

Simply put, the 11+ includes a series of tests that examine a student's knowledge and skills in a range of subjects, including English, Maths, and Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning.

Most exam boards examine similar content, however the way the tests are taken may be slightly different. Some are written tests while some are taken online in a test centre. Ultimately each 11+ exam board assesses similar topics.
