How 1:1 Tuition is Transforming Education in Schools

When we think about our time at school, we remember being sat in a classroom, surrounded by chatter and having a laugh with our friends. However, most of us can also remember that sinking feeling and red-faced embarrassment of feeling lost with the content of lessons - especially in the subjects we hated.

Even today, feeling lost in the classroom is a huge issue that chips away at the confidence of lots of students out there, particularly those with learning challenges or those with a history of finding a core subject tricky.

Now, schools have a better understanding of how to help by implementing 1:1 learning time in student's timetables, particularly if they can get funding for 1:1 tuition from an Educational Healthcare Plan.

So how does it work?

Unlike traditional classroom teaching, customised 1:1 tuition sessions offer students a more flexible and engaging learning experience during the school day, as their tutor can adapt the content, pace, and teaching methods to suit their needs.

When tutors (like us!) come into schools for online or in-person lessons, we do the following things to improve learning outcomes:

  • Individually assess needs: we work identifying strengths and areas for improvement in the student's work in time for their next end of unit test or exam.

  • Flexible pacing: Students get to spend more time on challenging topics and move quickly through familiar material. This reduces wasted time and makes learning time work for them, rather than the general needs of a class of 30.

  • Varied teaching methods: Students get to choose how they learn. They get a choice of interactive activities, reading materials, and hands-on projects to cater to different learning preferences.

  • Goal setting: Students set personal learning goals, which increases motivation and ownership of their education.

What are the advantages of Personalised learning?

Our reviews show that our tutors have a great impact on the students they work with - in terms of their confidence, relationship with learning and overall attitude to school. Here are a few more benefits parents and schools have noted:

  • Improved engagement: Students are more motivated because learning with a 1:1 tutor matches their interests and abilities.

  • Better academic outcomes: Tutors can help students master concepts more effectively.

  • Increased confidence: Success in learning builds self-esteem and encourages further effort - so getting a tutor often makes students feel more empowered to succeed.

  • Support for diverse learners: Students with different needs, including those with learning difficulties, receive appropriate support that brings out the best in them.

  • Development of self-regulation: Students learn to set goals and manage their learning more independently. Tuition gives them a sense of progress and structure that they want to repeat.

Do we provide 1:1 tuition within schools?

Yes! We've been providing schools with 1:1 tuition within school hours over the last 3 academic years, in both London and Essex. We provide sessions to schools both in-person and online, for all subjects and exam boards, with brilliant outcomes for both types of tuition.

"Modern Tuition have been incredibly flexible and easy to work with and have added valuable intervention for one of our EHCP students who is now approaching the GCSEs with more confidence. Thanks to the tutors for their flexibility and support over the last year." - Jessica Escott, Assistant Head Teacher (SENDCO), Davenant Foundation School, Essex
